founding father, Roger Revelle
(left) envisioned a graduate school
to teach the basic sciences to
students at Scripps Institution of
Oceanography, which he directed
from 1951 to 1964.
Upon approval from the UC
Regents, Revelle scoured the
country for groundbreaking faculty
of the time, establishing a legacy
of excellence passed on to
students like those seen right in
this chemistry lab from Third (now
Marshall) College circa 1971.
