LEADING THE WAY IN SOCIAL INNOVATION
UC San Diego’s commitment to social innovation earned it the
designation of “Changemaker Campus” by Ashoka U, the world’s
largest network of social entrepreneurs. UC San Diego is the first
UC campus to be recognized, along with only 40 other universities
worldwide. The honor highlights the innovative educational
experiences offered inside and outside the classroom so that
students are poised to make a positive difference in the world.
NO. 1 IN THE GOLDEN AGE
UC San Diego received the top slot
in the new Times Higher Education
ranking of the world’s top “Golden Age”
universities—the best 100 institutions
that were founded between 1945 and
1966, a time characterized by rapid
university expansion and increased
investment in research.
20 YEARS STRONG
The UC San Diego Women’s Center celebrates its 20th anniversary
this October. With advocacy from the Chancellor’s Advisory
Committee on the Status of Women and the Women’s Resource
Center organization, the Women’s Center officially opened its doors
in October 1996 and has since created a welcoming space that
fosters awareness, education and community.
“UC San Diego was an
experiment: our model from
day one was to focus on
issues, rather than disciplines.
This nontraditional approach
allows our students, faculty and
researchers to make contributions that
benefit society in myriad ways.”
—CHANCELLOR PRADEEP K. KHOSLA
Construction is underway for the 11-mile
Mid-Coast Trolley extension, transforming
the way the community will access and
experience UC San Diego.
In 2021, the UC San Diego Blue Line will
encourage the community to engage and
connect with the many intellectual and
cultural offerings on campus. It is the first
step in a grand plan to create new student-centered facilities and open spaces,
a campus gateway, and a more accessible
and pedestrian-friendly experience.
